Focusing on African American folk magic traditions in the South Carolina Lowcountry, this presentation explores the presence of historical records in archives and libraries documenting the practice of Hoodoo. African American folk magic traditions remain a largely underrepresented topic within many archival repositories but present considerable opportunities in terms of collection, description, and access. Hoodoo is not just about spells and charms, but is linked to cultural expressions of faith and healing.
