Panelists address the importance and challenges of noncommercial radio archives, discussing efforts to preserve and provide access to alternative, community, college, and public affairs radio materials; difficulties posed by audio formats; noncommercial radios research value; and archival stewardships benefits. Topics include appraising, preserving, making accessible, and showcasing college and public affairs radio; preserving and providing access to broadcasts threatened by Hurricane Katrina; and a survey concerning current efforts to document noncommercial radio.
