Michael Everman received his BA in History at Cameron University in Lawton, Oklahoma in 1975, and his M.A. in History from Oklahoma State University in Stillwater in 1977. He has worked as an archivist and humanities program specialist with the Oklahoma Department of Libraries, Oklahoma Historical Society, University of Missouri-Columbia, and with educational associations in Washington DC and Austin, Texas. He is a Certified Archivist and active with the Association of St. Louis Area Archivists.

Since September 2000 he has been project archivist for the St. Louis Circuit Court Historical Records Project, a collaborative effort of the Missouri State Archives, the St. Louis Circuit Court, and the American Culture Studies Program of Washington University in St. Louis. In June 2006 the project became the first branch of the Missouri State Archives, an office of the Missouri Secretary of State, headquartered in Jefferson City.
