Amy Schindler is the University Archivist in the Special Collections Research Center, Earl Gregg Swem Library at the College of William and Mary, a position she has held since 2007. Ms. Schindler has responsibility for acquiring, overseeing the preservation, and providing access to material in the collection with outreach to students, faculty & staff, alumni, and the general public primarily through class presentations, talks, tours, exhibits, and digital collections. She also served as Acting Marian and Alan McLeod Director of the Special Collections Research Center(July 2010-August 2011). She was previously Curator of Manuscripts at the University at Albany, SUNY (2002-2007), and has also held contract positions in corporate and local government archives, including Northwestern Mutual Life and Harley-Davidson Motor Company.
She has been a member of the Society of American Archivists since 2000 and served on the Reference, Access, and Outreach Section as a member of the steering committee (2006-2008), vice-chair (2008-2009), and chair (2009-2010). She is an active member of the Mid-Atlantic Regional Archives Conference (MARAC), serving on the Nominations & Elections, (2009-2010), Development (2007-2009), Meetings Coordinating (2005-2009), Outreach (2002-2006), Local Arrangements (Spring 2005, Fall 2007), and Program (Spring 2009) Committees. She previously served on the board of the Capital Area Archivists of New York (2002-2007) including service as president. She has presented on conference session panels at the New York Archives Conference, MARAC, American Association for History and Computing, and SAA. She earned an MLIS and MA from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (2001) and a BA in history and certificate in Asian American Studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison (1998).
